Bal·kan·ize /ˈbɔlkəˌnaɪz/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[bawl-kuh-nahyz] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–verb (used with object), -ized, -iz·ing.
1.
to divide (a country, territory, etc.) into small, quarrelsome, ineffectual states.
Editor' Note: Does this sound like Iraq today?
2.
(often lowercase) to divide (groups, areas, etc.) into contending and usually ineffectual factions: a movement to balkanize minority voters.

Editor's Note: Red v Blue, Black v White, Dem v Repub, pro life v pro choice, to list a few of the wedges that demoralize We the People. The USA is fairly Balkanized isn't it?
