Fwd: Kent State Anti-War Event 11/14 & Powerful Audio-Poem

Many of you may recall an article I covered in June about a Gulf
War veteran, a victim of probable Uranium poisoning and PTSD, Tim
Coil, and his courageous wife, Yvette. I was moved and impressed
about their experience going up against military recruiters who were
recruiting inside their local library:

You can read more, in Yvette's own words, here:

Yvette has gone on since then to do important work as the Organizer
of Iraq Veterans Against the War - Cleveland Chapter 25. They are
holding an anti-war dramatic event at Kent State in Ohio on November
14. See link below for details!

In addition, there is a POWERFULLY MOVING, not-to-be missed audio
at this site, a moving reading of a poem about our injured and
disabled veterans of war. I can not recall ever hearing anything
that evoked quite that much emotion before...

If these bogus wars against innocents are ever going to end, we
need to get larger numbers of people to FEEL the pain of war and its
casualties - both domestic and international, both.

To hear this poem read to you, click on the words "Ask me about
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder" at: .

Please forward this on widely in order that many will attend the
Kent State anti-war event this week, and hear this hauntingly moving,
powerful poem.

Thank you!

Dwight D. Eisenhower: West Point Grads Aginst the War

"When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to goand fight it. After my experience, I have come to hate war."
(2)"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its stupidity. War settles nothing."
(3)"Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honestdissent with disloyal subversion."
(4)"If all that Americans want is security, they can go to prison. They’ll have enough to eat, a bed and a roof over their heads. But if an American wants to preserve his dignity and his equality as a human being, he must not bow his neck to any dictatorial government."

'If we don't fight hard enough for the things we stand for, at some point we have to recognize that we don't really stand for them.' Paul Wellstone

=It is the common fate of the indolent to see their rights become a prey to the active. The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt. (1790): John Philpot Curran:

=So long as the people do not care to exercise their freedom, those who wish to tyrannize will do so; for tyrants are active and ardent, and will devote themselves in the name of any number of gods, religious and otherwise, to put shackles upon sleeping men: Voltaire:

=Patriotism does not oblige us to acquiesce in the destruction of liberty. Patriotism obliges us to question it, at least: Wendy Kaminer:

Fwd: House tied in knots over resolution to impeach Cheney: Refers Resolution 333 to Judiciary Committee

House tied in knots over resolution to impeach Cheney: Refers
Resolution 333
to Judiciary Committee

Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, is trying to impeach Vice President Cheney
what he describes
<>as "high
crimes and misdemeanors" before the invasion of Iraq.

Right after the proposal was read on the House floor this afternoon,
Majority Leader Steny Hoyer stepped forwarded and tried to convince
lawmakers to

"Impeachment is not on our agenda. We have some major priorities. We
need to
focus on those," Hoyer told Fox

*Update at 3:39 p.m. ET:* We thought that the vote to table was over -
- the
clock said 0:00 -- but lawmakers are still switching things around and
Kucinich is within a few votes of getting his bill to come up for a

*Update at 3:43 p.m. ET:* At least 149 Republicans have voted in
favor of
considering the impeachment resolution. Hoyer's motion, which would
blocked a vote, looks like its going to fail by at least 31 votes.

*Update at 3:53 p.m. ET: *The 15-minute vote began at 2:53 p.m. ET.
been an hour, and they're still voting. The tally stands at 170-242
now. Hoyer needed 218 votes to push the bill off the agenda. He's 72

*Update at 4:02 p.m. ET:* Hoyer's motion failed 251-162. The House is
voting on whether to vote on whether the resolution should be sent to
Judiciary Committee.

*Update at 4:25 p.m. ET:* The vote to decide to vote (yes, you read
correctly) just ended. By a 218-194 margin, the House has to vote on
to send the resolution to the Judiciary Committee. That's happening

*Update at 4:30 p.m. ET*: Perhaps we should pause to explain. When
Republicans unexpectedly -- and on orders of GOP leadership, the AP is
reporting -- switched sides and voted *against *tabling the measure,
essentially forced Democrats to keep talking about it on the floor.
the measure would have killed it.

Debate over Cheney's impeachment is in direct opposition to House
Nancy Pelosi's wishes. She has repeatedly said an impeachment of
Cheney or
President Bush is off the table. Thus, failing to table this measure
is a
essentially a jab in Pelosi's ribs.

"We're going to help them out, to explain themselves," Rep. Pete
R-Texas, told the AP of the impeachment's supporters. "We're going to
them their day in court."

*Update at 4:32 p.m. ET: *The House just voted, 218-194, to send the
resolution to the Judiciary Committee. That should end today's
debate -- but
it does keep the resolution at least technically alive.

Cal physicists make a radio 10,000 times thinner than a human hair

Now if you start to hear voices, it could be something that blew into your ear.

Physicists at UC Berkeley say they have produced the world's smallest radio out of a single carbon nanotube that is 10,000 times thinner than a human hair.

Professor Alex Zettl led a team that developed the minuscule filament, which can be tuned to receive AM or FM transmissions.

The first song it played? "Layla" by Derek & the Dominos. Eric Clapton's unmistakable guitar riff can be heard on a scratchy recording of the nanoradio's output posted by Zettl online.
